Focus:
In this short blog from Tektronix, a maker of test equipment including a setup for making EMI
measurements, argues that the cost of an in-house EMI pre-compliance test setup is justified.
It outlines the ballpark costs associated with compliance testing (certification costs and test
lab time) as well as engineering costs associated with troubleshooting and fixing problems that
cause compliance test failures. It then puts these numbers in perspective by describing two
case studies where companies accrued tens of thousands of dollars in costs per year using
external test labs to prepare their products for compliance testing. The author then weighs
these costs against that of Tektronix’s EMI pre-compliance test solution, discusses additional
benefits, and gives an estimate on the customer’s return on investment.
