Daisy Chain PoE Devices Using PoE Power Forwarding

Focus:
This blog by a provider of power-over-Ethernet (PoE) devices explains a feature of PoE that some designers may not be aware of--power forwarding, which allows the transmission distance of a single Ethernet run to be extended beyond the standard-specified 100 m or to add jacks. Power forwarding involves cascading or daisy chaining PoE powered devices, or using a PoE extender. This short article offers an example where two PDs, a wireless access point and an IP camera are daisy chained. A Microchip PSE chip and PoE extender that support power forwarding are noted.
