Use PWM To Maintain Motor Speed And Phase While Eliminating Loop Filter

by Richard Heming, RF and analog design engineer, Institute for Analytical Sciences, Dortmund, Germany, Electronic Design, May 22 2008

Focus:
A simple PLL circuit controls dc motor speed (at 6000 RPM) and phase without requiring a PLL loop filter. Use of pulse width modulation ensures good load regulation and eliminates the need for additional components that are typically required to compensate armature resistance losses.
