Focus:
This article explores the design of the control circuit of the boost push-pull (BPP) power-
transfer circuit in the battery converter stage of the Volksinverter power inverter. It begins
an explanation of control circuit design by observing how low output-voltage and output-current
conditions on the battery converter’s output port complicate converter control. Then, it
addresses these requirements by applying a combination of operating modes, and derives the
control logic needed to implement these two modes. Based on those logic requirements, a
particular control scheme is recommended. Finally, the various exceptions to the normal
controller operating modes are described.
