No need to fear: SEPIC outperforms the flyback

by John Betten and Robert Kollman,Texas Instruments, Planet Analog, Jan 25 2006

Focus:
When choosing a topology for nonisolated applications where input voltage varies above and below the output voltage, many designers opt for the familiar flyback rather risk attempting a design based on the more mysterious SEPIC (single-ended primary-inductance converter). But a comparison of the two topologies using actual design examples illustrates how the SEPIC topology is often the better choice.
