Designing Single-Switch, Resonant-Reset, Forward Converters

by No author listed, EE Times Asia, Aug 07 2007

Focus:
The single-transistor resonant-reset forward converter eliminates the transformer reset winding and a diode found in the conventional forward converter, which reduces cost by simplifying the transformer. Because this converter allows duty cycles greater than 50%, it is suitable for use in dc-dc converters with wide input and output voltage ranges. In addition, its sinusoidal reset voltage reduces EMI. A design example using the MAX5068 current-mode PWM controller is presented with details on MOSFET selection, transformer design, and inductor and capacitor selection.
