Focus:
One of numerous circuits presented in Linear Technology Application Note 61, "Practical Circuitry for Measurement and Control Problems". In this particular circuit developed by Steve Pietkiewicz, a power supply capable of driving a small CCFL over a 100-mA to 2-mA range operates from a 2-V to 6-V input rather than the usual 5-V to 30-V supply. The low input voltage range enables operation from 2- or 3-cell batteries used in palmtop computers and other portable products. A companion circuit developed by Steve Pietkiewicz, "Low Voltage Powered LCD Contrast Supply," which operates over a similarly low input voltage range, is also presented.
