Improved Power Supply Rejection For IC Linear Regulators

Focus:
For a low-dropout linear regulator (LDO), the power supply supply ripple rejection (PSRR) is the LDO's ability to attenuate any ac ripple that rides on the dc input voltage. In some noise-sensitive applications where very clean supply voltages are needed, the PSRR specified for the LDO may be insufficient. For those cases, the LDO's PSRR may be increased by adding external networks such as RC or LC filters, or by cascading LDOs. Or in the case of a high-current LDO controller, the addition of an external can increase PSRR effectively. This application note explains how to apply these PSRR enhancement techniques and their tradeoffs.
