Focus:
Infineon's MIPAQ serve is a six-pack IGBT module with built in drivers, transformer isolation, logic-level inputs and digital temperature measurement. This article describes the construction and operation of this module, its features and benefits for designers including the designer's ability to treat the module as a "plug-and-play" device. The article describes the advantages of Coreless Transformer Technology over optocouplers as a means of isolation, particularly as a means for reducing IGBT dead time in inverter applications. A 3-D graph shows output voltage ratio as a function of dead time and switching frequency.
