As wireless power begins to emerge as an industry, this article aims to educate potential consumers and developers of wireless power products by discussing marketing research on consumer preferences and the technical capabilities and design challenges of wireless power technologies currently being developed. The technologies discussed here include high-frequency broadcast, mid-range inductive coupling and near-field inductive coupling. This is a higher-level discussion that includes definitions of key terms associated with these technologies. The section on consumer desires looks at issues such as the public’s attitudes on wireless power being offered in built-in versus accessory products, and pricing.
