Measuring the Cross Regulation Of Dual Output DC-DC Power Converters

by Steve Butler, VP of Engineering, VPT, Blacksburg VA , Vendor website, Dec 11 2011

Focus:
In this 7-minute video, the presenter demonstrates how to measure the cross regulation of a +/-5-V dual-output dc-dc converter (in this case, the company’s DVHF 2805). The positive output is the main regulated output, while the negative output is the cross-regulated output. Key elements of the test setup are explained and cross regulation of the negative output is measured first under the conditions specified in the datasheet, and then under various “extreme” or unbalanced loading conditions. The impact of these various loading scenarios on the cross-regulated output is discussed. Tips are given for achieving good regulation on the cross-regulated output by maintaining minimum levels of loading.
