Focus:
This case study reveals the benefits of a nonisolated push-pull topology in which a 1:1
isolation transformer, reconnected as an autotransformer, performs voltage doubling,
reducing
the required transformer size while doubling transistor efficiency. Operating from a
28-V dc
input, the resulting design delivered 1500 W at 40 V dc with 92% to 94% efficiency. The
author
explains how he developed this design and how it can be adapted for other voltage
transformations.
