This broad overview on motor drives continues in part 4 with a discussion on the
measurement of ac line currents. Concepts such as wye (star) and delta connections in
three-phase systems and utility requirements for THD are briefly discussed. Then the basic
concepts of ac line currents and measuring current in single-phase ac systems are
explained. Measurements demonstrate the impact of linear (resistive) and nonlinear loads
on the current-versus-voltage relationship.
